| Our office is affiliated with two laser PRK (photorefractive
keratectomy) surgery centers. Excimer laser refractive surgery is a process
which uses a laser to reshape the front surface of the cornea to compensate
for nearsightedness (myopia), astigmatism, and farsightedness (hyperopia)
. As a result, the need for eyeglasses or contact lenses is reduced or eliminated.
An alternative variation of the standard PRK procedure, LASIK,
is now the way most procedures are performed. LASIK offers the advantage
of faster post operative recovery. It also is specifically indicated for
prescriptions of greater magnitude.
Our doctors are presently
associated with LaserView Center of CNY. This laser center is conveniently
located for most Central New Yorkers. Our doctors are also laser associates
of the Bochner Eye Institute which is
located in Toronto, Canada.
Our office offers independent
and objective laser refractive surgery evaluation to determine patient eligibility
for this procedure. Patients, 21 years or older, with stable prescriptions
may be candidates for this procedure. When appropriate, data for laser surgery
will be referred to a laser center and programming will be determined by
one of our doctors. Following the laser procedure, our doctors will provide
patient treatment and post surgical follow-up for six months. Our doctors
manage laser procedures on a daily basis. The results to date are exciting.
The average patient in our office achieves 20/20 minus (less one or two letters)
at the six month progress visit . Further information and questions regarding
the this procedure may be directed to our laser coordinator, Nancy Bitetto.
